Sustainable Finance Seminar: When Do Firms Oversell or Undersell Their Environmental Sustainability?

Presented by Gaku Morio (Researcher, Hitachi America, Ltd.) and Isabella Yoon (Teaching Fellow, University of Otago), the seminar examined the gap between firms' environmental sustainability claims and their actual performance. Co-authored by our lab's PI (Professor Soh Young In), the research analyzes responsibility reports from 293 publicly traded U.S. firms using advanced natural language processing (NLP) tools, revealing key insights into corporate communication strategies and stakeholder impacts.
